This GEM was sitting in a pile of electronic junk boxes in the Field Operations equipment room at NBC in Washington DC. My recollection is that it was soon to be jettisoned in one of the every year or two, “get rid of excess crap” projects. I was lucky enough to “save” one! Ha. Pre-Cell Phone era, these were our primary means of communications with Tech Opns and Editorial. No encryption. VHF and UHF voice only. 2.5 watts. Motorola Built and tough. Real metal. Leather cases that today would cost several hundred dollars. I’ve still got it.
